Amedei Porcelana — the world’s most expensive chocolate?

Amedei Porcelana is sometimes described as the world’s most expensive chocolate. Yet sometimes this claim is disputed. So, what’s really going on? The truth is that nobody can be stopped from putting a ridiculous dollar amount next to a piece of candy. There has to be something other than the price alone that qualifies a product as the world’s most expensive chocolate. Indeed, there is at least one special ingredient that is responsible for the scarcity of this particular product: a cocoa bean of the variety called “Porcelana” due to its porcelain-like color. Only about 20,000 chocolate bars are produced by Amedei every year using this rare bean. The price of a single pound of this chocolate is close to $100. How does that compare to some other kinds of chocolate that count among the world’s most expensive? Well, Chocopologie by Knipschildt has a price tag of over $2,600 per pound, and Noka Vintages Collection will ring up at the register at over $850. These fine chocolates also feature some exotic ingredients. It is, of course, up to you to figure out which product is more palatable, but our question here is quite simple: how valid is Amedei’s claim that Porcelana is the world’s most expensive chocolate? From the research that I have done it appears that Amedei Porcelana certainly ranks among the world’s most expensive chocolates. More importantly, however, it is the only chocolate bar that makes the list of pricey sweets. If you manage to find this rare product for sale, you can always claim that you have scored the world’s most expensive chocolate bar. The good news is that Amedei Porcelana is among luxury goods that are actually affordable, as long as you can justify the purchase. Believe it or not, a single bar costs under $20! So, the challenge is just finding one for sale…
